DreamSpirit has always been a band that gives taxonomists a headache. They stick to the long hair and gorgeous scales of traditional European power metal, but are more willing to indulge in the imagination of chrysanthemums, ancient swords and wine;

In the roar of guitar distortion, they are just some prodigal sons and long-cherished poets, using music to pay homage to each other's most sympathetic sages.

The latest work " A.D.1279 " is such an album, it is difficult for us to simply classify it into the existing typical power metal or folk metal categories. But there is no doubt about its metallic purity, in this era when "metal" is often regarded as a corny term, and even practitioners are more willing to use words such as "heavy". DreamSpirit still wear these two words on their chests as a large medal and supreme glory.

Starting from 2017, DREAMSPIRIT spent three years creating and completing this album showing the historical picture scroll of the late Song Dynasty. Recorded with the best conditions possible, and handed over to the famous German power metal guitar master, legendary power metal band HELLOWEEN golden age guitarist: Roland Grapow for post-production.

Seven hundred years ago, in AD 1279, the war between the Southern Song Dynasty and the Mongol Empire entered its final stage. The war that lasted for more than forty years has stained every inch of land in the Great Song Dynasty. The remaining troops of the Song Army retreating to the south of the Five Ridges were finally wiped out in the tragic Yashan naval battle; Prime Minister Wen Tianxiang was captured, and Lu Xiufu threw the young emperor into the sea. Hundreds of thousands of unyielding soldiers and civilians of the Song Dynasty also committed suicide, and the Song Dynasty died. A generation of Chinese elites fell away; the millennium Chinese civilization was finally broken.

"There is no China after Yashan", this is a history worth remembering carefully. This album is a song used by DreamSpirit to comfort the heroic spirit.

As Mr. Chen Yinke, a master of Chinese studies, said: "The culture of the Chinese nation has evolved for thousands of years, and it was created in the Zhao and Song Dynasties. It will gradually decline and will eventually recover."

In their own way, DreamSpirit wrote one after another painstaking work from different angles with the fictional stories in her mind combined with the grand background of the times.

I usually find the opera vocals in symphonic metal sung in English to seem very out of place, but the traditional Chinese instrumentals paired with the Chinese opera vocals fit so well. Also really love that the band sings in both Mandarin and Cantonese. camilleyan
